Notes From the Field: “My family and I spent a whole day in the Berlin zoo in summer (we had a vacation of two weeks in northern Germany). My sons were hungry and we sat down near the monkey cage, because there was a hot dogger. When my sons had their ‘meal’ I was walking around a bit and took shots of these monkeys and for a very short moment they showed me this pose. I had just time to take 2 shots but one turned out quite fine.
Gear: Canon 5D II with Sigma 120-300/2.8”— Gunter Leitenbauer
Editor’s Review:
“It’s what you don’t see that makes this image for me. I was first focused on the eyes of the mandrill in the foreground when I discovered the tiny hand-like shape of an infant under the mother’s ‘elbow.’ I now understand her keen observation on her surroundings.”— Steve Freligh
